EARLY SCIENTIFIC AND TECH DISCOVERIES WERE ALL BY CHRISTIANS
2 min readIt is impossible to talk about global civilization without giving Christianity astronomical credit. The best and oldest universities — Yale, Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford, etc. all began as Christian institutions. In fact, the university system is a Christian concept.
Unbelievably brilliant physicists who propounded laws were Christians: Michael Faraday – electromagnetism, Isaac Newton – Laws of motion. Isaac studied his Bible more than he did, science, unarguably, the most influential scientist of all time.
Robert Boyle – first gas law
Gregor Mendel – Genetics
John Dalton – laws of temperature, volume and pressure.
The inventor of MRI, Christian.
Einstein kept pictures of three scientific heroes on the wall of his study: Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday, and James Clerk Maxwell. They were all Christians.
In arts: In the Sistine Chapel at Rome is one of the world’s most famous pictures—a painting by Michelangelo. The subject is the Last Judgment. In an old dining room in the city of Milan is another masterpice, one of the best-known pictures in the world. It was painted by that matchless genius, Leon- ardo da Vinci. All Christians.
What Christianity did in architecture is magnificent. Speaking of Roman and Greek architecture which were inspired by Christian living; the best in Europe in the Middle Ages. The cathedral of Milan, Italy. Westminster Abbey in London is a splendid Gothic cathedral. At Paris, at Rheims, at Cologne, at Canterbury – marvellous monuments to an age of faith, of skill, and Christian devotion.
Music? One of the greatest influences of music is Christianity. Handel’s Messiah, Mendels- sohn’s Elijah, and Haydn’s Creation are samples. A few of the great Christian hymns like “Jerusalem the Golden,” “Lead Kindly Light,” and “Rock of Ages” are a priceless heritage. Not to forget Mozart and Bach, masterful composers of deeply sophisticated music, all Christians. Taking it a notch to modern music, there is barely any secular musician that wasn’t favoured by the church community. All your faves – Beyoncé, Usher, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, Diana Ross, Katy Perry, etc. all of them started in the church.
It is inexpressibly untrue how Christianity is often described as a mentally obtuse and intellectually dense religion. Take Christianity from the world, there will barely be any scientific and technological civilization. History proves this. I may understand your doubt about God, but questioning the insane role Christianity has played in global civilization is just ignorant.
And please don’t mention Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg’s social media invention. While I acknowledge this, the computational models most of their programs are written on were founded by early Christian physicists.
Christianity is actually not your mate. Spiritually, physically and otherwise.
