HOUSE OF REPS MOVES TO AVERT BANDITRY IN EHAMUFU

The House of Representatives has moved to avert further destruction of lives and properties by bandits in Ehamufu communities in EnuguEast/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State.

The House which also observed a one-minute silence in honour of those murdered in the repeated attacks by the bandits in Ehamufu and environs urged the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector-General of Police to immediately deploy more security personnel to the communities.

This was sequel to the motion of urgent national importance titled ‘Urgent Need to intervene in the incessant killings and kidnappings by bandits in Ehamufu communities in EnuguEast/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State’, sponsored by Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi.member representing Enugu east/ Isiuzo federal constituency of Enugu State.

The House equally implored the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that a full-scale investigations of the killings were conducted with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.

The House which adopted all the prayers advanced by Professor Nnamchi in the motion further urged the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) to quickly supply relief materials to the victims of the attacks.

It however mandated the Committees on National Security and Intelligence, Army, Police Affairs and Legislative Compliance to follow up and ensure that the resolutions of the House were carried out swiftly.

Professor Nnamch had in his supporting debate pointed out that ten women were kidnapped from their kitchens in Ehamufu on the 26th of December, 2021 and were only released after huge ransoms had been on their heads.

  • He further stated that the “prevalence and abhorrent kidnapping of women as well as minors by herdsmen and bandits in the area are alarming” adding that “it is regrettable that none of the perpetrators of these heinous attacks have been apprehended”.
  • Professor Nnamchi stressed that the prevailing crises in the affected communities have thrown the people into unprecedented poverty with women and children thrown into illiteracy and hunger and urged his colleagues to support the motion to save humanity.
