HONOURING EXCELLENCE: COMRADE DR. PETER ANDY OMEJE CELEBRATES HIS BIRTHDAY TODAY, JULY 12TH, 2024
3 min readDifferent authors have defined leadership in different ways. According to Keith Davis, “Leadership is the ability to persuade others to seek defined objectives enthusiastically. It is the human factor that binds a group together and motivates it towards goals.”
Leadership has also been described as the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.
Leadership was simplified by that popular and great author, John C. Maxwell, who says that, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way”.
One of the most important qualities of a good leader is self-awareness. The leader needs to be constantly aware of how he/she is acting, what he/she is saying and what message his/her nonverbal communication is sending.
Comrade Dr. Peter Andy Omeje, a graduate of Veterinary Medicine from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka and immediate past Commissioner for Transport, Enugu State is a leader to behold. His leadership virtues is worth extolling. He possesses a crucial leadership skill; the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and tactfully. He asks intelligent questions, solicits input and new ideas, shares valuable information and clarifies misunderstandings. He communicates openly, honestly and directly with his people. He has clear convictions about what is right and wrong, and he is respected for being genuine, principled, ethical and consistent.
The popular ‘Not Too Young To Rule’ is just icing on the cake of this man of the people and I am convinced beyond every reasonable doubt that he will make Nigerians proud in a not too distant time. A man that always sees himself as a privileged Nigerian who needs to do more for the nation that is in dare need of good leaders.
Comrade Dr. Peter Andy is a passionate humanitarian. He does his things hundreds percent because of God and for his love for humanity. He displayed this attribute massively during his one term as the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Chairman. His generosity earned him the title “Eribe Echeta Ibe” (meaning he who gives to his people while eating) by Uhunowerre community while his doggedness and performance in office earned him “Ike Eji Eje Mba” by Ibagwa-Aka community. The entire women of Igbo-Eze South local government crowned him “Onwanetiriora” (the moon that shines for all) and Ezema community titled him “Aguejiejemba”, etc.
He left no one in doubt of his determination to walk across the unbeaten track because of his driving force and biding desire to serve humanity. Dr. Peter. Andy Omeje is always doggedly committed to the pursuit of his goals and in so doing, the perfectionist in him is always appearing. He does not believe in half measures, rather he believes what is worth doing is worth doing well.
Honestly, I am stunned by his simplicity, decency, gentleness and his intimidating profile of achievements. I can never get bored talking, reading or even writing about Comrade Peter Andy. He is indeed my ideal kind of a leader.
Enumerating the achievements of Comrade Dr. Peter Andy Omeje as former Senior Prefect of Boys’ Secondary School, Ibagwa-Aka, former SUG President (UNN), former Chief Protocol Officer to then Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South, former Special Adviser on Staff Matters to the Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South, Senior Executive Assistant (SEA) to then Governor Sullivan Chime, former Executive Assistant (EA) to former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor, former Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze South, former Commissioner for Transport, Enugu State, etc…will be detailed in another episode – ‘Peter Andy’s Achievements – PAA’. In the episode, all and sundry will know why he is an enigma, a leadership magician of sort, that he has technically made the general public to watch, listen and even follow his exemplary leadership qualities with envy.
