In today’s gospel Christ wants us to understand that to be ambitious is not bad in itself but any ambition that is not based in service to others and one’s community is a false ambition.
The apostles were busy jostling over who is the greatest and in symbolic placement of a child, he thought them that true greatness lies in service to others. St. James in corroborating the above service oriented ambition is urging us not to be over ambitious at all cost to avoid indulging in sin just to achieve our goals.
In the world of today, people are driven with ambitions that are rooted in self interest as against service to others.
Most Politicians can go to any length provided they win an election not necessarily to serve the people but to enrich themselves. Some youths of today can indulge in any ritual to live in luxury.
I pray for God’s grace of contentment fueled by an ambition that is driven with passion to serve others in any area of our endeavours.
