Breaking: Ibagwa-Aka Unites in Prayer Amid Rising Insecurity

By Nkem Ossai
History was made today in Ibagwa-Aka as Christians of different religious denominations gathered at the Jimo Rauf Gbadamosi Ultra Modern Stadium, Ibagwa-Aka, to pray for the community against the backdrop of a spate of criminal activities that have taken many lives in Ibagwa-Aka town in recent times.
At about 12 noon today, 5th July 2025, leaders and members of different religious groups began arriving at the venue for the event. Prayers were offered to God for His intervention and mercy on the land.

Ibagwa-Aka, a serene community known for its peaceful disposition, recently became a beehive of all kinds of criminality, ranging from kidnapping to suspected human-related rituals.
It will be recalled that not too long ago, some reverend sisters visiting their parents in the village were kidnapped and taken away to an unknown place. They were later rescued after concerted efforts by law enforcement agents and the vigilante group; however, not before they were inhumanely subjected to untold suffering.
As if that was not enough, four children of the same parents were cold-bloodedly murdered in the same town within a month. This incident hit the community like a hurricane, being the first time in history that such a dastardly act would be perpetrated.

As the controversy over the murder of the four innocent children was about to die down, another young man was carelessly killed in the neighborhood as a result of a brotherly squabble.
In the face of these very strange occurrences, which are unknown in the community, the Christian denominations came together to seek God’s mercy and liberation. It was a very successful outing organized by the Federated Ibagwa-Aka Solemn Assembly and hosted by Arise Ibagwa-Aka Youth Assembly.

In attendance were leaders and men of God in the community and beyond. Among them were: the Igbo-Eze South LGA Chairman, Hon. Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze; Rev. Fr. Dr. Jude Odo; Very Rev. Fr. Anselem Omeje; Rev. Dr. Ebuka Omeje; Rev. Fr. Moses Omeje; Ven. Dr. Omeje; Rev. Okafor; Ven. Clifford; Pastors; Pastor (Engr.) Sunday Amos Ugwoke (Okpaka); and others.

Among the community leaders were: HRH, Igwe Prof. Ikenna Omeje; HRH, Igwe Jerome Ugwu; Igwe-Elect, Ozioko Sylvester Eze; the Federated Ibagwa-Aka Women Council led by their leader, Barr. Martina Eze; Dr. Felix Asogwa; High Chief Nkem Ossai; Hon. Dominic Ezema; Barr. Onah; Chief Nelson Onugwu; Hon. Chibuzo Thankgod Onoja; and several others too many to mention.
