No arrests so far as police investigate fatal shooting outside conference hall.
Ottawa police are examining a Saturday night shooting at a wedding reception that left two Toronto men dead and injured six others.
Acting Duty Insp. Amy Bond said police answered reports of gunfire at around 10:21 p.m. Saturday in the city’s south end. The victims were going to a reception at the Infinity Convention Centre on the 2900 block of Gibford Drive, off Hunt Club Street close to the Ottawa International Airport.
Four hours after the revealed shots, police expressed there could have been no further dangers to public security. The two victims were identified Sunday evening as 26-year-old Said Mohamed Ali and 29-year-old Abdishakur Abdi-Dahir, both from Toronto.
“This brutality is tragic. It’s unacceptable,” Bond said. “It’s disturbing for our entire community.”
“All analytical points are being investigated,” police said in their Sunday evening media discharge.” At this stage, there is no sign that this was a hate-motivated shooting.” Ottawa paramedic spokesman Marc-Antoine Deschamps said the six individuals who were harmed were not in life-threatening condition.
Saturday late evening’s shooting “can’t be portrayed as anything short of a misfortune,” composed Anu Sohal, a delegate with the convention centre, in an email to Radio-Canada.
“Our hearts break for those affected families,” Sohal composed.
“The members of the Infinity Convention Centre are effectively helping neighbourhood specialists and their investigation. No different remarks will be given while the investigation is ongoing.”
Gloucester-Southgate Coun. Jessica Bradley, who addresses the region, referred to the news as “awful.”
“This has no place in our community,” she said. “There is no capacity to bear this kind of violence, and I trust that those involved and the people who might realise something share with the police. Also, we can tackle this rapidly.”
Police are asking anybody with data on the shooting to contact their homicide unit at 613-236-1222 x 5493. They are specifically asking for information from anyone with a cell phone, dash cam or security video of the area from between 10 p.m. also, 10:30 p.m.
“If there is any information and evidence that you can give, kindly present it since that truly helps us,” said Bond.
