A group of politicians in Nsukka cultural zone has approached Adoru Ero deity at Alor-Agu in Igbo-Eze South LGA of Enugu State to intervene in a reported plot to rig the bye-election taking place in the Igbo-Eze North/Udenu federal constituency on February 3.
The members of “Mmanwu Obodo”, who claimed they were all traditional worshippers, were sighted at the shrine of Adoru Ero this Thursday.
The group was apparently responding to the news about the PDP’s plan to compromise INEC to declare false results even before eligible voters have finished casting their votes on Saturday.
“Actually, our request was for Adoru Ero to strike every person who rigs the election dead. But the chief priest has chosen madness instead of death as the penalty,” said their leader who gave his name as Ugwuofia. Those to be affected, he said, are all electoral officers as well as thugs who might try to snatch ballot boxes.
Investigations reveal that “Mmanwu Obodo” did not have the official endorsement of any of the political parties or their candidates in the bye-election.
Ugwuofia said they were acting on their own. “We want to teach PDP thugs and election thieves a lesson,” he said. “They think since they have public money to bribe INEC and judges, that is all. Any election worker who wants to run mad should go to Enugu-Ezike or Udenu on Saturday to falsify election results or declare fake results.”
Labour Party candidate Hon. Denis Agbo is expected to win the bye-election easily. He currently has 12,500+ votes more than his closest opponent Atigwe of the PDP.
The appeal court ordered a rerun in 165 polling units in the federal constituency because the ballot papers used for the February 25, 2023, election in the areas omitted the APC logo.
