News reaching our news desk confirmed that Senator Ayogu Eze died of undisclosed illness.

Born on November 23, 1958, Eze was elected Senator for the Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State, Nigeria, taking office on June 5, 2007.

Eze served in the National Assembly from 2007 to 2015. During his tenure, he was a member of the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee, which made significant changes to Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.

Following his reelection to the Senate in 2011, Eze was appointed chairman of the Committee on Works. He also served as a member of committees on Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport, and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs. He was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before he defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, where he ran for Enugu State governorship election.

Senator Ayogu Eze who left his footprint in the Senate of the Federal Republic will always be remembered by many Nsukka people for his eloquence and strong argument for the creation of Adada State.

A sound journalist, he worked for the Guardian Newspaper and was at sometime a Commissioner for Information under the administration of Governor Chimaroke Nnamani of Enugu State.

Says Poet James Eze on the news of his death: “You did your best amidst daunting circumstances. You took your chances. Won some, lost some. Farewell, warrior!”

Another great journalist, Aniebo Nwamu, has this to say on getting the news of Senator Ayogu’s demise: “Vanity upon vanities, saith the preacher/All is vanity.”

“Do not ask for whom the bell tolls/ It tolls for thee,” says a poet. People of the world, be wise.”

“We shall pass this way but once,” says another poet.”

Senator Ayogu Eze is from Umuiyida, Enugu-Ezike in Igbo-Eze North, Enugu State. He represented Enugu North Senatorial District in Enugu State.

Rest on ‘dimkpa Nska Asadu’. “Life is a passing wind. Death awaits all humans.” Goodnight the great Senator. It shall be well with your soul.
