Establishment of Operational Base at Uzo-Uwani LG; Enugu North Professionals Hail Naval Chief
4 min readThe leadership of Enugu North Professionals for Good Governance, has commended the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, over his recent promise to establish an Operational Base of the Nigerian Navy at the Ogurugu Seaport in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a statement signed by the President of Enugu North Professionals for Good Governance, Hon. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Jonathan, JP, Esq., the group said that the swift decision of the newly appointed Naval Chief to establish a Naval Base at Uzo-Uwani shows that he is in tune with the age long pains of Nsukka people as a result of the high rate of insecurity in that area that has crippled economic and agricultural activities of the people.
The Professionals said that benefits of establishing a Naval Base at the said location cannot be over emphasized adding that the high rate of insecurity always recorded in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area will now be a thing of the past.
While appreciating the Chief of Naval Staff and the entire staff of the Nigerian Navy, the group promised to support in whatever ways possible to see to the realization of the lofty and people oriented project that will encourage huge economic and agricultural activities in Uzo-Uwani and Enugu State at large.
According to the Professionals, “the Ogurugu river which used to be a seaport during the colonial era, but abandoned all these while, will now give assurances to investors, who will be motivated to invest in the development of that seaway for the benefit of the people of Enugu State.
“The operations of the Nigerian Navy there will greatly provide internal security operations both through area surveillance and patrol in such a manner that economic activities can thrive without hindrance.
“We thank the federal government for the jetty built by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), which will now help in making the establishment of the proposed naval base very easy being that it is one of the most difficult facilities needed for the establishment of a Naval Base.”
While also noting that the Naval Base will be very important to Naval operations in the South East and the North Central, the Enugu North Professionals for Good Governance prayed for its successful actualization.
The Professionals whose objective is to advocate good governance in Nsukka Zone of Enugu State, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding an illustrious son of Nsukka land worthy of being appointed as the Chief of Naval Staff in the country.
The group also called on stakeholders and great sons and daughters of Nsukka land to welcome this lofty and people oriented project being attracted by the newly appointed Naval Chief of the country.
