Igbo-Eze South Chairman Hails Gov. Mbah’s Equitable Governance, Showcases One Year Achievements

The Chairman of Igbo-Eze South LGA, Hon. Barr. Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze has said that the Enugu State Governor, His Excellency Governor Peter Mbah is the only Governor in Nigeria that is committed to equitable governance in the country.
The Chairman made the declaration during an interactive session with The Nigerian Union of Journalists, Nsukka Chapel, at the Local Government Council Headquarters (Legacy building), Ibagwa-Aka recently.
During the interactive session, the Chairman drew the attention of the visiting journalists to the litany of his achievements since he came into power a year ago.
He said the Local government is rehabilitating boreholes in all the communities within the Council area and building new ones where there is none. “Currently, we are completing one at Ulunya Ovoko Autonomous Community, from there we will move to Iheaka and Itchi-Agu. We are taking them one after the other” he said.
The Chairman further noted that in spite of the scarce resources received, the local government has been able to commence temporary road grading as first approach to the problems of bad road in the area.
Responding, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ikechukwu Okenyi said that the aim of the courtesy visit was to congratulate him as he approaches his one year in office and at the same time, access the level of development as it affects the LGA. In this way, he emphasized, members would be able to know what he has been able to do within the resources available to the LGA.
As the society ‘s, watchdog, the Chairman added, members of the Union will be able to acquaint themselves and at the same time, be able to inform and educate the general public.
Welcoming the Union, the Local Government Chairman said , “I heard you were coming to interact with us but I didn’t know I was going to be subjected to a project defence of my activities at least for the past one year. On a lighter mood, the Chairman maintained, “probably if I knew, I would have requested for your permission for us to have a clear date, so that I don’t suffer what we call collateral damage.” He reiterated that one of the features of this age is that the government of the day does not need the established media to have their activities always in print because everybody at home is now with his or her gadget with which he can communicate to the world. He said he is grateful to His Excellency, the good governor of Enugu state, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah who set the ball of development rolling in Enugu state.
He said that a new borehole has been built for Ulunya Ovoko Autonomous Community and is ready due for commissioning.
On welfare of the staff, he said the local government is taking care of the staff in terms of regular payment of salaries in addition to other packages adding that the elders of the community are not left out in their area of needs.
“Last year, we began with traditional rulers, we made it a policy that every traditional ruler in Igbo-Eze South, went home with their Christmas uniforms. In addition to that, we made it easier for them whenever they want to organize their “Annual New Yam Festival”, we will come in and partner with them. He noted that some of them have already held their festival, noting that some are still coming up.
The Chairman said the local government has successfully handled security issues adding that proactive measures were put in place to stop the carnage in the area, recalling how they were able to chase out marauders who were lurking around the bushes and forests around the place.
