They commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for appointing Ezenma the Chairman of Nsukka LGA Traditional Rulers’ Council, stressing that, following the very robust strategy, clear and resolute vision of the Igwe, the sky would be their beginning in achieving peace and progress in the community.
They also assured that they would continue the mutually beneficial relationship that has existed between them and the host community.
Earlier, Igwe Ezenma said that the meeting was anchored on security and asked, “what do we do to know when a bad man comes into our midst?” He pointed out that they do not know the source of life of some people living in the community.
“The essence of the meeting was to tell you what is allowed and what is not allowed here.” He stated that it was for the benefits of the people and not for him as the Igwe. He added that there would be need for an association amongst the people so that even if I maltreat any of you, the association can come and discuss with me.
He immediately inaugurated the association with the first ‘seed-money’ of three hundred thousand Naira. He noted that this would enhance security and association with each other. Igwe Ezenma said that he did not want any case and that any civil case would be settled by him and his cabinet, while criminal cases go to security agencies. He advised that before they invite any visitor to their houses, they should let him know, adding that there are people who bring people (criminals) and keep in their house. He assured that no indigene can intimidate a stranger and no stranger can intimidate an indigene.
Igwe Ezenma, after listening to their requests approved electricity where it hasn’t reached yet. He also approved the establishment of a market in the community and instructed the President – General (PG), Charles Onyema to get bulldozer and begin to use it for the control of erosion. He added, “for electricity bills, we would always interface with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.” On security, he directed the PG to draft some people to increase the manpower needs there.
The Area Commander, Nigeria Police, Nsukka, Mr. Hassan Yahaya was represented by the Administration Officer, Mr. Placcidius Ugwu and the Divisional Police Officer. They pledged to assist the community on the issue of security.
