SIN IS NOT JUST ABOUT DOING WRONG, IT IS ALSO ABOUT NOT DOING GOOD.
Today, we are presented with the story of the rich man called Dives and Lazarus, the poor beggar. Dives was condemned, not because he was rich, but because he didn’t show compassion to the poor man.
Sin is not just about doing wrong. It is also about not doing good. Mother Teresa once said, “The greatest evil in the world today is the terrible indifference towards the poor, which is so widespread”. The only riches worth having are the riches of the heart. Lazarus was poor, but Dives was poorer because Lazarus only suffered material poverty while Dives suffered poverty of the heart. His heart was devoid of compassion and love. He lived for himself alone.
I pray that the Lord who entered fully into our world will give us the grace to enter into the world of those who are in pain or in need.
