THE VIRTUOUS WOMAN IN THE FIRST READING FROM THE BOOK OF PROVERBS 31 WAS PRAISED MORE FOR HER CHARACTER THAN HER TALENTS

1 min read

It is by living that we discover our talents and by using them they grow. If our talents must grow, a lot of discipline, hard work and patience are required for it to blossom.

The first two servants in today’s gospel of Mtt 25:14 is a clear example. We see the opposite on the third servant who out of sheer laziness and cowardice refused to grow his own. Furthermore, talent without character is exercise in futility. The qualities that helps a person succeed in life is more of character than talent.

For us to have a balanced development of our talents, we need to work more on our character. The virtuous woman in the first reading from the book of Proverbs 31 was praised more for her character than her talents.

My dearest in the Lord, we must do all we can to return our talents to God increased knowing that life is God:s gift to us but what we make of it is our gift to God.

I pray for you that on the day of judgement, you too will be praised for utilizing the talent God gave you like the two worthy servants in today’s gospel!
