THE WATER THAT WILL QUENCH THE VARIOUS THIRSTS OF PEOPLE AROUND YOU

There is a thirst in the human heart that only God can quench. Ordinary water is a precious commodity, but the “water” Jesus promises the Samaritan woman is infinitely more precious.

Jesus gives us this water in baptism through which we share in the undying life of God. We also see through today’s readings God’s compassion for man. In the first reading, despite the complaint of the people of Isreal, God still went on to provide them with water through Moses.

In the second reading despite the religious cum cultural bias and prejudice, Jesus went out of his way to give the poor Samaritan woman the water that changed her life instead of the water that quenched thirst, she got the water that gave her the void in her life.

Let us learn how to be compassionate this season of Lent without counting bias and prejudice of any sort. Be the water that will quench the various thirsts of people around you.

Happy 3rd Sunday of Lent.
