Contrary to expectations and in flagrant violation of the Order of the Noble Lords of the Honourable Tribunal (Governorship) sitting at the premises of Enugu State High Court, the Enugu State PDP ostensibly led by Dr. Festus Uzo, the former Chief of Staff to former Governor Ugwuanyi, in connivance with some disgruntled INEC workers have deployed thugs to besiege the INEC office in Enugu with a view to stopping the LP and its Governorship Candidate from inspecting the BVAS.
Earlier today, the LP Bvas inspection team ably led by Dr. John Nwokeabia, in compliance with the Order of the Honourable Tribunal went to Inec to inspect the Bvas but were surprisingly denied access to the Bvas by Inec Rec, Enugu State Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu in collaboration with the INEC HOD, voter Education, Mr. Chuka Rex Achumie.
It’s worrisome that the excercise was scuttled as thugs stormed Inec office apparently at the behest of the leadership of who are obviously jittery over the inspection for obvious reasons.
Despite every entreaties and repeated demands by the LP team and even the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Independence Layout Divisional Police Headquarters to allow LP carry out the Order granted them by the Court, Mr. Rex Achumie who was acting under the instruction of the Enugu INEC REC, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu vehemently refused and resisted the move. It’s an aberration that a supposedly independent institution like Independent Electoral Commission is taking such a ridiculous position that a political party that is at the epicenter of this wholesale, wholesome and humongous rigging of an election that is a subject of litigation must give a stamp of approval before they can obey Court order.
It’s embarrassing that sensitive issues such as this are being reduced to the level of comedy.
We are calling on all the concerned Law Enforcement a
Agencies to activate the coercive forces of the law so as to arrest or cause the arrest of both the Enugu State INEC REC, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu and his co- travelers on this ill- fated journey of infamy and criminality.
In all, we say that the judiciary is on trial.
