The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Faculty of Engineering Successfully hosted the 21st Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture recently.
The Dean of the Faculty, Engr. Prof. Ikechukwu Christian Ezema (Ike Eze), enumerated the needs of the Faculty to include, a one-story building to serve as the Dean’s administrative hub and symbol of leadership for the Faculty, story-buildings for five departments according to the faculty development plan, to provide modern classrooms, staff offices, laboratories and collaborative spaces for teaching and research and a 1000 capacity lecture theatre/auditorium.
Others, according to Engr. Prof. Ike Eze, were project vehicles: Coaster buses, Hilux vans and Salon cars for Dean, Associate Dean and Head of Departments to support fieldwork, Community services and industry engagements, renovation of the current faculty building and renovation of the old and new engineering lecture theatres.
Engr. Prof. Ike Eze, who spoke during his address in the occasion themed “Sustainable Engineering Practice for National Development: Innovative Solutions and Technological Advancement in an ‘AI’ Era”. also praised the great past Deans, who kept the HMML flag flying and by that attracted several laudable projects to the faculty.
Engr. Prof. Ike Eze specifically thanked His Royal Highness, Igwe Engr. Augustine Otiji, who first donated Computer Communication Centre during his reign as Director-General, Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL) and the late Engr. Dr.Emmanuel Chukwuma Nnama, Engr. Dr. Edu Okeke, the Azura managing Director, who donated 240kw solar park for the faculty in November 2024, Engr. Fubara Okoroafor, who donated POWERTRON building, Engr. Uzoma Oguike, who donated the Biomedical engineering building, the Dean’s official car, 18-seater faculty bus, among others, Engr. Emma Ezekwe, University of Nigeria, Nsukka Engineering Faculty Alumni Association President, who recently replaced all the broken seats in New Engineering Lecture Theatre(NELT) and earlier championed the construction of the 1979 building with his classmates, the 1985 class for its building, among others.
Engr. Prof. Ike Eze further thanked the dynamic and capacity Vice-Chancellor for all his support and approvals, the 21st HMML Chairman specially for his enthusiasm in accepting the function and all his encouragements, the HMML lecturer for his erudite scholarship, whose lecture was aimed at enhancing new academic experience and creating opportunities for innovative learning, the keynote speakers for their diligent services, the Symposium Chairman and speakers, all the special guests of honour and indeed the Agbebites physical and online and all for their presence, commitment and belief in the power of engineering to change lives.
Finally, Engr. Prof. Ike Eze, who spoke alongside Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, the Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Ikechukwu Newton Abonyi (I.N.A.) Ugwuegede, the Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Associate Prof. Cordelia Nnennaya Mama, the Associate Dean, Engr. Prof. Cosmas Uchenna Ogbuka, the chairman of the planning committee in his audience also thanked his colleagues, particularly the 21st HMML planning committee members for their solidarity with him that made them achieve the good result.
