GIVING IS AT THE HEART OF THE GOSPEL; IT IS THE VERY ESSENCE OF CHRISTIANITY

All giving is good but just like money, some are like copper, some like silver and some are pure gold. The test of a gift is not the amount in itself, but what its loss meant to the giver. There are two types of giving; When the giver can give what he or she can live without. This kind of giving does not really hurt the giver.

There is another kind of giving, when the gift is desparately needed by the giver as well as by the reciever. This kind of giving hurts and as such a real sacrifice is involved. This giving is pure gold. This is the type of gift the poor widows exhibited in today’s readings. They gave all leaving none behind but their reward knew no bounds.

Giving is at the heart of the gospel, it is the very essence of Christianity. Give cheerfully, and you will never lack like these poor widows that were used as an example for us to follow.
