PASSING THE TORCH: NPC ENUGU GETS NEW STATE DIRECTOR.

Mrs. Jane Frances Ugwu (Nee Eze) assumed duty on Tuesday March 24, 2026 as the substantive State Director of National Population Commission (NPC) Enugu State. She replaces Mrs. Odinakachukwu Okolie who retired on Monday March 23,2026.

The appointment of Mrs. Ugwu was consequent upon Mrs. Okolie’s retirement from the federal civil service on completion of 35 years of meritorious service and two and half years at the helm of affairs of the National Population Commission (NPC) Enugu, as the State Director.

Before her appointment as the State Director, Mrs. Jane Frances Ugwu was the Head of the Protocol Unit in the Public Affairs Department (PAD) at the commission’s headquarters Abuja.

Prior to being transferred to Abuja, she had served in various capacities: Head of Public Affairs Department and Comptroller at Plateau State where she was first posted on her recruitment into the commission.

In her speech during assumption of office, she enjoined the staff members to cooperate with her for a synergy that would put the state on a high data pedestal, emphasizing that for success to be achieved there must be understanding between the management and the staff members. In her own words; “I want us to work as a team for the achievement of the aims and objectives of the commission. Therefore, I urge you to be industrious and dedicated in your duties. I have an open door policy to accommodate all of us on our journey to achieve success. So feel free to make your inputs on the best way forward. In essence, every staff member is expected to give good account of his or her stewardship at any moment.”

She appealed to the staff members to always perform their duties with utmost sincerity, commitment, good conscience and the fear of God.

Among those who were present during her resumption of duty were the various heads of departments: Mrs. Chinelo Ifedinkor (ICT), Mrs. Nonyelu Agbalibe (Civil Registration and Vital Statistics), Comrade Ikechukwu Okenyi (Public Affairs Department and the PRO), Mr. Cajethan Udeh (Human Resources Management), Mr. Julius Ogbonna Ugwu (Technical, but now known as Geographical Resource Department (GRD:housing Cartography, Census) and Mr. Charles Nnamene (Accounts), unit heads and the Comptrollers of the seventeen local government areas in the state.
