The family did not disclose the specific illness that led to his death or provide details regarding his burial arrangements.

Duru was one of the familiar faces in Nollywood, with an acting career spanning more than three decades. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Ahanna in Rattlesnake, the 1995 film produced by the late filmmaker Amaka Igwe.

He began his acting career in 1989 with Missing Mark before establishing himself as a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry.

Throughout his career, Duru featured in numerous productions, including Blood Money, Stigma, Home in Exile, The Locals and Mboputa. His performance in Mboputa earned him the Best Actor in a Leading Role in an Igbo-language film award at the 2020 Best of Nollywood Awards.

Beyond acting, Duru contributed to the entertainment industry through other creative and professional roles. He also served as interim president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria in 2010 and received a United Nations Ambassador of Peace award in 2007.

Born in Cameroon to Nigerian parents from Imo State, Duru later moved to Nigeria, where he studied Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt, graduating in 1996.

His death comes two years after the actor suffered the loss of his 15-year-old son, Ifeanyi, in August 2024.

The passing of the veteran actor marks the loss of a performer whose work contributed to the growth of Nollywood over several decades.

Further details regarding his burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
