GOD LOOKS BEYOND OUR WEAKNESSES

The fact that Peter received the power of the keys from Christ casting shadow to the power of the keys given to Eliakim by God after deposing Shebna in the first reading from the book of Isaiah and still left the authority with Peter in spite of his denials and lapses shows that Christ looked beyond his weakness to his strengths.
We can learn from Peter that the frailties we see in him we recognize in ourselves as well due to our human nature.
Courage fails us all. In the end we all are mere mortals who are inconsistent in our beliefs but we must not judge ourselves or others by momentary lapses but by commitment over a long time of our beliefs as Christ judged Peter in spite of his shortcomings.
