NDIOKE IBAGWA-AKA AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY: Iri ji ọhụrụ kpọtụrụ akpọtụ
2 min readThe New Yam Festival popular known as Iri ji ọhụrụ’ is an annual cultural festival held at the end of the rainy season in August and September.
His Royal Highness, Igwe Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Urama – Ezeonyemegbule Ibeya II of Ndioke Ibagwa-Aka Autonomous Community hosted and supervised the celebration at his palace for the first time in the history of Ndioke Ibagwa Aka autonomous community.
Speaking to the press during the celebration in Ndioke, the Traditional Ruler of Ndioke Kingdom, HRH Igwe Emmanuel Emeka Urama, said the celebration served as a means to bring the people together to display their cherished and rich culture and traditions.
He prayed that the festival would continue to foster peace in Ndioke Ibagwa Aka, Enugu State, the entire Eastern Region and Nigeria at large while assuring that the next year’s celebration will be greater.
On his part, the President-General of Ndioke Town Union, High Chief Nkem Ossai, on behalf of the Town Union felicitated with the Traditional Ruler of Ndioke kingdom, HRH Igwe Emmanuel Emeka Urama on the occasion of the ‘Iri ji ọhụrụ’ festival. He said “Your Highness, as you mark this important cultural event in celebration of our Igbo heritage, it is my fervent prayer that the Almighty will continue to be with you, guide you, and endow you with wisdom, good health and long life to pilot the affairs of our dear community”. He assured His Royal Highness that Ndioke Town Union would not relent on their efforts in working assiduously towards a sustainable progress of the community.
It was indeed a massive celebration being the first of its kind in the newly established autonomous community with a new King.
There were several cultural displays, masquerades, dancers, among others.
