WHO CAN RESCUE RADIO NIGERIA VOICE FM NSUKKA?
2 min read….A wake up call for Ndi Igbo Nsukka to act before the night falls again as usual.
By Ike Okenyi
All is not well with the FRCN Voice FM Radio Station Nsukka and there is no pretense about the present embarrassing situation of the station which is a federal government presence in our area. The station is earnestly calling for rescue.
The time for Ndi Igbo Nsukka to act is now before the night falls. UpWe remember with nostalgia how ESUTH Adada Campus, Nkpologwu and ESUTH Teaching Hospital Nsukka already situated at the present General Hospital Nsukka were all closed down and taken to Enugu.
Our checks on Friday October 20,2023 shows that the station has been off the air since Wednesday October 4th 2023 leaving the public stranded as many of our people use the station to reach their audience.
According to the residents of the area who pleaded anonymity, the station had been experiencing epileptic operation before the present situation due to power issues.
Our investigation shows that Chief Ayogu Eze, a former Senator who represented Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State at the National Assembly attracted the equipment for the station and that of the supposed twin sister station, NTA when he was the Chairman Senate Committee on Information.
The equipment for the radio station and that of NTA were delivered in 2013. While Voice FM took off in June, 2014, the equipment for the NTA was not installed. Three years later, (2017), Federal Government was said to have sent for the equipment meant for two stations, but luckily that of the radio had been installed and in use and so the equipment for the NTA were allegedly taken away and diverted to Kwara State from where Lai Mohammed the former Minister of Information under Buhari’s administration hails from.
Worrisome is the road leading to the station which is in a very deplorable situation. The mast is in danger as the people of the area are excavating pebbles very close to it.
Danger ahead: If nothing is done urgently, the station is heading to a complete closure.
Our efforts to speak with the Acting General Manager of the radio station, Mr. Eric Irechukwu has proved abortive at the time of filling this report as he was said to be away to his village for the mourning of one of his parents.
